CHAPTER EIGHT

Who's Who?

Jolanta and Marcella went into the living room to watch some programme or other that they'd been looking forward to on the TV, leaving me and a quiet thoughtful Fudge sitting together and sharing a beer each.

“How, you holding up Fudge?”

“OK now Sue, I just try not to think about her too much, life goes on mate.”

“Good...do me a favour Fudge.”

“If I can.”

“Keep a close eye on Davy.”

“Have I missed something Sue?”

“Not sure mate, just a feeling I've got, something doesn't quite fit about him.”

“Like what Sue?”

“He's got hidden talents Fudge, I was watching his reactions at the quiz, I swear he knew the correct answers to almost every question, yet he tried to hide it.”

“So he's more clever than he lets on, so what?”

“No, there's more Fudge. Everyone was devastated by Rhoma's murder, except Davy, he didn't seem so much upset, it was more like he was angry”

“But he didn't know her as well as the rest of us Sue, that's probably why.”

“Maybe you're right Fudge, but I sense something different, I just can't put my finger on it.”

“Have you spoken to Jolanta Sue.”

“Not yet mate, but I will in speak with her.”

“Anything else Sue?”

“Yeah, when he's alone he always seems to be playing games on his mobile, he could be contacting someone by text.”

“Like who?”

“Maybe Jill.”

“And what brought you to that conclusion Sue?”

“The way she found Rhoma. Sure there could be a lot of other explanations mate, but it still worries me. Plus when we captured Boris and rescued Davy earlier this year, well we know Jill was definitely in the Boris house earlier that day, we had it under surveillance all day and she never left, but when we hit the place, well, everyone else was still there and they were all captured, but....”

“Yeah Sue...but no Jill, now I understand. It's a possible, that's for sure.”

“I'm going to get Alan to run a full check on him, see if we could have missed something, but I think that's doubtful. If I had to guess, even although Boris murdered Davy's friend, Davy was living under the Boris roof for a long time...Boris killed Davy's friend, not Jill...Jill probably didn't even know Boris at the time of his friends death, so Davy would have nothing personally against Jill, maybe they got into a relationship, who knows?”

“But surely Davy wouldn't help Jill to murder Rhoma Sue?”

“She's a devious bitch Fudge, she could have something on Davy, it's possible.”

“But Davy was on the hit list Sue, Boris tried to take him out.”

“Of course he did, but Jill didn't.”

“What could Jill possibly have on Davy Sue?”

“That my friend is the sixty four thousand dollar question.”

“Shit! Do you think that Jill knows where we are Sue.”

“I hope not, but I think it's a possible.”

I spoke to a shocked Jolanta five minutes later, outlining my concerns.

“My god Sue, if you're right she'll know everything.”

I nodded...

“I'll contact Iveta immediately, tell her to stay at her daughters for a time, and I'll send Donald to watch over her for a few days.
